Terrorism gets new definition…

Gone are the days when there was a reason and justification for those terrorist acts. Nowadays nobody really cares to explain or acknowledge the reasoning behind terrorism. The tragic acts of terror are getting more and more insane to unreasonable levels.

I don’t really understand what exactly is the views of Government of India nor those of the folks who indulge in terrorist acts. From what I perceive, the Government seem to be clueless while those terrorists with their acts seem to be reasonless. We the people understand terrorism is a curse on civilization. No one would disagree. However one fails to understand the nature of a Government being clueless on the security of the very country it is supposed to defend.

With this trend, its not just the act of terrorism but the inactivity – inability of the Government that is more terrifying. Unfortunately, terrorism in this era gets a new uglier definition. Its not just some extremist outfit inflicting human loss – its the lethargic nature of a crippled Government with all its inabilities and shortcomings, sits like a lame duck watching its citizens die.

CNN notes that “India’s counterterrorism efforts are hampered by outdated and overburdened law enforcement and legal systems, and the country’s court system is ‘slow, laborious, and prone to corruption.’ How shameful!

NDTV tries to get a reason behind the inability of our Intelligence agencies,

intelligence agencies say there are no breakthroughs because terror groups have managed to create a successful smokescreen. At best, only fringe elements can be detected.

  • First they stopped using cellphones, making technical surveillance impossible.
  • To send emails to outsiders, they use proxy servers that hide the IP address. So, tracing them is nearly impossible.
  • For internal communication they don’t send any email, just save the information as a draft that other members can log in and read.
  • Bombings are not carried out by members of terror groups, they are outsourced to sleeper cells.

Now that’s pathetic.

Indian Constituion is known for its checks-and-balances… But where is the check on inactivity on the Government’s part to new threats? We the people, can and do understand the growing challenge in curbing terrorism, can accept how even for a well-developed nation like America its a struggle. Nonetheless, what a citizen would desperately want to see is the Will and Display of the Government to put a stop on terrorism. Are they really going to come up with some effective response to terrorism out of the blue?
